Founder & Managing Partner | Wisdom Law Associates, Kathmandu Kiran Paudel is the Founder and Managing Partner of Wisdom Law Associates and a leading authority on public procurement and dispute resolution in Nepal. A top-ranked achiever in the Nepal Bar Council Exam (2017), Kiran brings a rare blend of academic excellence, sector-specific insight, and extensive experience to his practice. He is currently pursuing a PhD at Sharda University, India, with a research focus on pre-arbitration procedures in public procurement disputes, a field in which he is widely recognized as a specialist.
Kiran Paudel founded Wisdom Law Associates on a single conviction: that Nepal’s most consequential legal work public procurement disputes, international arbitrations, and infrastructure contract claims deserves counsel who has spent a career doing nothing else. That conviction was not accidental. It was built, case by case, over nearly a decade of practice that now spans more than 800 court cases and 400 arbitration proceedings .
Kiran Paudel has spent nearly a decade at the intersection of public procurement law and international arbitration two fields that, taken separately, demand specialist knowledge, and taken together, define the legal landscape of Nepal’s infrastructure development. His practice is not broad by design. It is deep by choice.
The decision to specialise was deliberate. Nepal was building at a scale it had never attempted before expressways, hydropower plants, transmission corridors, international airports. The contracts governing those projects were large, technically intricate, and almost invariably disputed. The legal discipline required to advise on them properly procurement law, FIDIC contract interpretation, international arbitration procedure was one that very few practitioners in the country had seriously studied. Kiran studied it. He then went out and practised it, on matters where the consequences of getting it wrong were measured in billions of rupees and years of delay.
There are lawyers who know procurement law. There are lawyers who know arbitration. There are very few who have spent a decade mastering both — inside Nepal’s most complex infrastructure disputes, before international tribunals, on contracts worth billions. When the matter is serious, the choice of lawyer is not a formality. It is the decision.
His clients have included Nepalses Contractors, Chinese state construction corporations, Korean energy companies, Italian infrastructure developers, French Contractors, Indian engineering firms, and the Government of Nepal. What they shared was not a type of matter it was a standard of complexity that placed their dispute beyond the reach of a generalist practice. Wisdom Law Associates was built to meet that standard.
Beyond the Practice
Kiran is a life member of the Royal Nepal Golf Club and Gokarna Forest Golf Resort. He has played golf for many years not as a pastime chosen for its social utility, but because it demands something that professional life does not always offer: complete individual accountability. Every outcome on a golf course belongs entirely to the player. There is no opposing counsel to fault, no procedural ambiguity to invoke. The scorecard is an honest record. He finds that clarifying.
